Kiwanis Club kicks off year with fundraisers

    The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club has announced the winners of the 62nd annual Talent Revue, with club officials noting this year’s turnout was good again.    The event, held at the Presque Isle Middle School auditorium on Jan. 25, saw competitors take the stage in five categories: Elementary, for grades K-5; Middle, grades 6-8; High School, grades 9-12; Adult; and new this year was Groups, consisting of three or more people of any age.
Taking top honors in the Elementary division was Jaden Ellis, who performed on fiddle. Also competing in this category were: Olivia Locke, who performed a clogging routine; and Whitley Green, playing the violin.
Yessenia Vilar performed a hip-hop dance number to take the title in the Middle School division. Also performing were Emily Poitras and Julia Kawalansky, who danced for their talent.
In the High School division, Kelsey Gilson clogged her way to the win. Her competition included Emily Brawn, who performed using sign language. Aaron Swanson, played the piano, which earned him Honorable Mention/Judges’ Choice.
Jordyn Shaw won in the Adult division, singing and playing the guitar. Shayna da Cruz danced in the same category, with Erica Hemphill performing a ballet number.
Winning the Group division was Moon Dance Studio. Also performing a dance number was the group made up of J. Cook, B. Rakes and E. Rosten.
Chairing this year’s show, which raised about $800, was Michelle Cushman. The money will go toward the club’s various ongoing projects.
Next up will be Vegas Fever, scheduled the weekend of March 14-15 at the Shrine Building on the Houlton Road. Activities include a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament and a Casino Night. Proceeds will benefit the Presque Isle Community Center Project.
