Umpires’ clinic
The Northern Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires is holding its annual clinic for prospective umpires. The clinic is set for Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and will run for six more weeks at Northern Maine Community College in Room 109 of Andrews Hall. Scott places 10th in event at state meet
Austin Scott came in 10th place in the 100-yard butterfly at last Tuesday’s Class B state swim meet held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.
Scott’s time was 1:00.52. He also placed 20th in the 200 freestyle in 2:09.08.
Softball instruction
The University of Maine at Presque Isle softball team will sponsor an instructional clinic, available to all softball players who are interested in refining their pitching, hitting and fielding skills, on March 8 and 9.
The clinic is open to players in grades 6-12.
Sessions will take place at UMPI. On Saturday, March 8, session I will be on throwing, catching and fielding mechanics and meets from 9-11:30 a.m. at Gentile Hall. The second session, held that afternoon from 12:30-3 p.m., will include hitting and bunting instruction and will be held at Wieden Gymnasium. The third session is Sunday, March 9 from 9-11 a.m. and covers the fundamentals of pitching techniques. This will also take place at Wieden Gymnasium.

Koch to receive $5,000 scholarship
Carsyn Koch, a senior at Washburn District High School, will be the recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame during induction ceremonies to take place May 4 in Augusta.
Koch is one of five scholar-athletes from throughout the state being recognized.
Koch is a four-time individual Class D cross-country champion, has also played on three state championship basketball teams and was a member of the 2013 Class D state champion Beaver soccer team. She has also won several individual Class C state track and field titles during her career and carries a grade-point average of 98.41, which ranks first in a class of 32.
