Star City native gains honor

    Charles F. “Chubb” Michaud, a native of Presque Isle, was this year’s recipient of the prestigious national Water Quality Association Hall of Fame Award. This award is presented to a member for lifetime dedication and service to the water quality improvement industry and represents WQA’s highest level of recognition.

Michaud, son of the late Leon and Yvonne (Paradis) Michaud, graduated from PIHS in 1959 and attended the University of Maine, receiving his BS in Chemical Engineering in 1963 and MS in Pulp & Paper Technology in 1964.

    An active member of the WQA, Michaud has served on the board of directors and board of governors and has chaired several national committees, sections and task forces.

    He is a WQA Certified Water Specialist Level VI. Michaud is currently on the board of directors of the Pacific WQA, where he has chaired the technical and education committees for the past 12 years.

    Michaud received the PWQA Robert Gans Award for technical leadership in 1992 and again in 2012 in addition to the Award of Merit from WQA in 2000 in recognition of his ongoing technical contributions to the industry.

    He was inducted into the PWQA Hall of Fame in 2007. A founding member of the technical review committee for Water Conditioning and Purification Magazine in 1993, he continues to serve on that body and has authored over 100 technical publications and papers. He holds four US patents in the field of ion exchange and water recycling.

    Michaud began his career with Rohm and Haas Company in Philadelphia in 1964, resigning as regional manager of industrial sales in 1982 to found Systematix Company where he continues to serve as CEO and technical director. Systematix is active in water and waste water treatment throughout the USA.

    Michaud resides in Fullerton, Calif. with his wife of 50 years, Dr. Valeda C. (Raymond) Michaud of Lewiston, and has a summer home in Boothbay Harbor.

    They have three grown children: Melanie, Melissa and Mathieu, who also reside in Fullerton.
