The baseball fields were filled with action last week. Game recaps that were reported are as follows:
Houlton 9, Calais 1 — Cousins Ryan Dee and Gage Hunt led the Shiretowners past Calais at home on Saturday.
Dee gave up one run on five hits, while striking out 10, while Hunt went 3-for-3 from the plate, including a two-run homer. Billy Phillips collected three hits, while Jake Drew and Parker Brewer each had two singles.
Houlton led 2-0 to open the game and extended their lead to 3-0 over four innings. Houlton used a six-run fifth to secure the win. The Blue Devils scored their lone run in the top of the sixth, as Greg Mitchell singled and doubled and scored.
Presque Isle 7, Houlton 2 — No information was avaiable at presstime.
The Shiretowners are due to play today at 7 p.m. in Community Park against visiting Caribou. Houlton will be at Hodgdon on Friday for a 4 p.m. game and will travel to Calais on Saturday. All games are dependent of the weather.
The Hodgdon Hawks had about a week stretch with no games, but will be back in action today in Danforth for a 4 p.m. game against East Grand/GHCA and Friday will host Houlton at 4 p.m.
SACS 13, Katahdin 3 — On Thursday in Dyer Brook, the Warriors used 12 hits to overpower Katahdin. Gage LeFay homered and tripled, while Parker Walker doubled and singled for three RBIs and Trent Cullinan collected three singles.
The Warriors posted a 5-0 lead after four before Katahdin cut into the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Southern Aroostook answered in the bottom of the fifth with four runs and four more in the sixth.
For Katahdin, Tyson Porter and T.J. Young each doubled and singled.
The Cougars will be in action today, weather depending, to Stearns in a 3:30 p.m. home game.
Fort Fairfield 14, SACS 13 — In their second game of the week, the Warriors outhit Fort Fairfield 18-11, but it was not enough for the extra-inning win.
The Tigers led 6-4 after three and extended their lead to 7-4 after six. The Warriors scored five runs in the top of the seventh and Fort Fairfield tied the game at 9-all in the bottom of the seventh for an extra-inning game.
In the top of the eighth, the Warriors picked up four runs, but it came down to the wire when the Tigers’ Ryan Pelkey won the game on a steal to home.
Walker paced Southern Aroostook with a double and two singles and LeFay stroked a double and single.
SACS 6, Limestone/MSSM 5 — At Dyer Brook last Saturday, the Warriors led 4-0 before the Eagles scored three runs in the top of the fifth. The Warriors collected two more runs in the bottom of the sixth when Walker poked a two-run homer for a 6-3 lead. But the Eagles pressured in the top of the seventh by scoring twice.
Walker also hit two singles and drove in three runs, while Will McGary had two singles and Austin White hit a two-run double.
SACS’ Cullinan threw a complete game with 11 strikeouts for the win, while Limestone/MSSM pitcher, Chris Bernier, also pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.
The Warriors will meet the Tigers at home on Thursday at 4 p.m. and will play Woodland at 4 p.m on Friday in Dyer Brook.
Shead 16, EG/GHCA 2 — Last Friday in Danforth, the Downeast Tigers picked up a lopsided win, as Will Urquhart and Devin Greenlaw combined to drive in five runs, as each player had two hits.
For EG/GHCA, Logan Crone hit twice and drove in a run.
Woodland 13, EG/GHCA 2 — Last Wednesday in Danforth, a solid pitching performance by Woodland’s Damon Lincoln, who struck out 12 in five innings and allowed two earned runs, gave the Dragons the win.
In the first inning, Woodland led 3-2, but they extended their lead over the last four innings.
Crone had two hits while Aaron Holmes and Wyatt Oliver each poked RBI-singles.
The East Grand/GHCA squad will play back-to-back games, depending on the weather, today they will host Hodgdon at 4 p.m. and will travel to Machias on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. game. On Tuesday, May 27, the Washburn Beavers travel to Danforth for a 6 p.m. game.
