The postseason is nearing for high school baseball and softball teams, with the preliminary games set for Tuesday, June 10, followed by the regional quarterfinals on Thursday, June 12.
The semifinals will be played on Saturday, June 14, with the finals being played on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17-18. The state championship games will be on Saturday, June 21.
Teams are still vying for playoff positions, as several games are left to be played. Game recaps are as follows:
Calais 7, Houlton 6 — Last Saturday, the Shiretowners were nipped by host Calais on Matt Ross’ run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh.
Gage Hunt led the Shiretowners with two doubles, while driving in three runs.
Houlton 15, Hodgdon 0 — Last Friday in Hodgdon, the Shiretowners rode the arm of Dan Howe who threw a five-inning no-hitter with four strikeouts. Hunt drilled a grand slam, a double and a single to support Howe from the plate.
The Houlton boys will play a doubleheader on Saturday in Fort Kent at 10 a.m. and noon.
The Hawks picked up a 19-3 win over East Grand/GHCA last Wednesday in Danforth. The Hawks are scheduled to play today at Washburn and home on Friday to Central Aroostook at 4 p.m.
Stearns 11, Katahdin 4 — Last Wednesday in Stacyville, the Cougars were outhit 11-4 by the Minutemen. Katahdin fell behind 7-1 after five innings of play.
Marc Morneault led the Minutemen on the mound with 11 strikeouts in five innings. Seth Brown relieved Morneault in the sixth to finish the game.
Aaron McAvoy relieved Shey Lane on the mound in the sixth for the Cougars while Lane, Tyson Porter and Dakota Reinhardt each got on base twice.
The Cougars will play a doubleheader on Saturday in Bangor against the Patriots at 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
SACS 13, Woodland 3 — Last Friday in Dyer Brook, the Warriors rallied by the visitors, as Parker Walker helped his own pitching cause from the plate with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Trent Cullinan had two doubles and a single to drive in three runs, as well. Gage LeFay collected three singles, while Josh Perrin and Nate Lilley each had two singles.
SACS 12, Fort Fairfield 2 — Last Thursday in Dyer Brook, Cullinan threw six innings, striking out 10, while helping his own cause from the plate with a double and single for three RBIs.
Lilley, McGary and Austin White each had two singles for the winners.
The Warriors took a 7-0 lead over three innings en route to the win.

SACS 14, Wisdom 7 — Last Wednesday at home, the Warriors staked a 9-1 lead after three innings leading to the win.
Cullinan had two doubles and drove in four runs, while LeFay had three base hits; Walker and Lilley each doubled and singled.
EG/GHCA 8, CAHS 6 — Last Thursday, the East Grand/GHCA team came from behind to steal the win.
The Panthers led 6-3 through four innings, with EG/GHCA closing the scoring gap after driving in a run in the bottom of the fifth. After holding the Panthers scoreless in the top of the sixth, the EG/GHCA team erupted for a four-run inning to take the lead en route to the win.
East Grand senior Logan Crone collected 12 strikeouts through seven innings, while also going 2-for-3 from the plate, driving in a run and scoring three times. Supporting the team’s offense, Wyatt Oliver also went 2-for-3, while driving in two runs and Kenny Winiarski belted a two-run double.
For the Panthers, Spencer Garrison hit a two-run single in the fourth.
The high school softball season is winding down and playoffs are just around the bend. Game recaps for last week’s action are as follows:
SACS 11, Woodland 5 — Last Friday in Dyer Brook, the Southern Aroostook girls jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and added five more runs in the fifth inning to earn their third win of the season.
Winning pitcher Jess Nye allowed four hits with seven strikouts. For SACS, Mataya Hartin hit a two-run double and a single with three RBIs. Jessica Tucker singled twice. Marissa Boulier singled and brought in three runs. Cassidy Lyons and Jess Nye each singled.
Fort Fairfield 8, SACS 3 — Last Thursday, the visiting Fort Fairfield Tigers picked up their seventh win on the season in Dyer Brook behind pitcher Jordann Coiley, who gave up only three runs in the first inning. Coiley also helped her cause by hitting a double and two singles with two RBIs. Logan Bubar hit a two-run double and Sarah Watt hit two singles with an RBI.
For SACS, Hartin hit two doubles with an RBI. Nye doubled and singled, while Chloe Raymond hit an RBI-double.
SACS 22, Wisdom 10 — Last Wednesday, the Lady Warriors grabbed a 7-5 lead after the second en route to the win.
SACS was led by Hartin who hit a two-run homerun and four singles for six RBIs. Kennedi Smith earned her first win on the mound giving up five hits and helped her own cause at the plate going 5-for-6, hitting a triple, three doubles and a single to drive in five runs. Marissa Boulier added a triple and a single for three RBIs. Cassidy Lyons doubled and singled for the winners.
CAHS 13, SACS 11 — Last Tuesday in Dyer Brook, the Panthers edged their hosts, as Karli Levesque led the way with a triple and an RBI-double. Megan King doubled and singled twice and Stephanie Dame hit a two-run double for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.
For SACS, Smith tripled and doubled and drove in two runs. Raymond hit an RBI-triple and a single, while Lyons doubled and singled.
The Lady Warriors will be at Limestone/MSSM for a 3:30 p.m. game on Thursday and will meet EG/GHCA in Danforth on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Calais 13, Houlton 0 — On Saturday in Calais, the Blue Devils’ Olivia Smith allowed only two hits and a walk while striking out 11 for the shutout win.
Emma Peterson and Emma Gallop each singled for Houlton.
The game was 4-0 Calais through four innings before the Blue Devils had a nine-run fifth to put the game away.
The Lady Shires will be in Fort Kent on Saturday for a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and noon.
Last Friday, the Lady Shiretowners overpowered host Hodgdon, 16-0.
Ashland 14, Hodgdon 2 — Last Saturday, the Hornets stung Hodgdon, taking an 11-2 lead after the second en route to the win.
Rachel Harmon singled twice for the Hawks (2-10) while Jamie Theriault, Jill Gough and Sam Palmer each added a single.
EG/GHCA 14, Hodgdon 0 — Last Wednesday in Danforth, the collaborative EG/GHCA team scored eight runs over two innings to roll.
Sarah Stoddard and Mikayla Watson each drove in two runs, while Allison McEwen notched the win by allowing only four hits and striking out five in six innings.
Hodgdon will travel to Washburn today for a 4 p.m. game and Friday they will be home to CAHS at 4 p.m.
PVHS 11, EG/GHCA 4 — At Danforth last Friday, PVHS’ Arianna McKinnon struck out 10 in seven innings, as she held EG/GHCA at bay.
East Grand pitcher Chelsea Winiarksi struck out eight and the offense was sparked by Jennah Carver, who had three hits and three RBIs.
The EG/GHCA girls will host Southern Aroostook on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Stearns 15, Katahdin 3 — At Stacyville last Wednesday, the Minutemen picked up the win behind Jess Girsa, who fired a five-hit complete game with seven strikeouts.
Lizzie Knowles, Molly Cunningham and Erin Crawford each singled for Katahdin and Knowles drove in a run.
The Lady Cougars will play a doubleheader Saturday with Bangor Christian in Bangor at 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
