HOULTON, Maine — Two men originally from Linneus were charged with criminal threatening early Sunday morning following an altercation at the Downunder Sports Pub that involved a handgun.
According to Det. Stewart Kennedy of the Houlton Police Department, officers were called to the restaurant at 10:45 p.m. for a report of an incident taking place in the parking lot outside. Security personnel had removed Max McGuire, 34, and his brother Avery McGuire, 21, and a third unidentified person from the lounge for causing a disturbance.

Once outside, Max McGuire retrieved a 9mm handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at several individuals, according to Kennedy. Avery McGuire also reportedly punched an individual in the parking lot. The incident was captured on security cameras, police said.
Max McGuire currently resides in California, while his brother Avery is a Marine stationed in the Washington, D.C. area. The two were home visiting for the July Fourth holiday.
Houlton Police Sgt. Eric Crouse, along with officers Ben Drew and Richard York responded to the scene, but the two brothers fled prior to the police’s arrival. The brothers were located at their parents’ home on Cyprus Lane in Linneus.
Both men were charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon (Class C felony) and assault (Class D misdemeanor). A 9mm handgun was recovered in a wooded area near the parents’ home in Linneus, according to police. A late model GMC pickup was also seized.
Both men were arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail and were later released on bail. The two are slated to appear in Houlton District Court in late summer.
Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police assisted in the case.
