The 11-12 Houlton all-stars suffered their first loss of the District 3 Little League Tournament, bowing to Hermon, 7-3.
The Houlton all-stars played an elimination game yesterday in Old Town.
The team traveled to Hermon last Wednesday and played two innings before the game was called because of lightning and rain. At that time, Hermon led 5-3.
On Thursday, the game was resumed and Hermon held Houlton scoreless over the course of the game, while they scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to the win. The Hawks’ first batter of the inning reached on an outfield error and their runs scored on back-to-back doubles.
The Houlton team struggled from the plate, with Keegan Gentle tripling in the first inning to score Alex Wilde, who reached on a fielder’s choice. Gentle then scored on Will Austin’s groundout to second base.
In the second, Houlton broke through for their final run when Kyle Carver and Jaron Gentle each drew walks and on two passed balls, Carver stole home.
In the fourth, Houlton stranded two runners and in the sixth with one out, David Tucker slugged a double and Devon Campbell was hit by a pitch to put both runners on. They were left on base following two strikeouts to end the inning.
