The National Resources Council of Maine is sponsoring a “Bike the Katahdin Woods and Waters Recreation Area” event on Saturday, July 19. Starting at 10 a.m., cyclists will gather at the Wassataquoik Gate, located near Stacyville, and cycle approximately four miles on decommissioned logging roads into Orin Falls — in Township 4, Range 8.
For the more or less adventurous, there will be alternative route options where riders can explore the area that has been proposed as a new state park at their own pace. Participants are encouraged to pack a lunch and join us at the Wassataquoik Lean-to along the way, where NRCM’s North Woods Policy Advocate Eliza Donoghue will share information about the proposed national park and national recreation area. A limited number of bicycles will be available for those who reserve them.
