CARIBOU — All the fun of a day at the races and the simplicity of picking up a raffle ticket — supporting the local chapter of the American Red Cross has never been better.
Saturday, Aug. 30 is American Red Cross Day at Spud Speedway and in addition to high-speed entertainment, winners will be drawn for the Race to Save A Life raffle.
Ken Urquhart is the chairman of the Race to Save A Life Committee, and he says that chances of winning are very good.
“All the tickets are being sold locally,” he emphasized.
Folks can purchase three tickets for $5 and be entered for a chance to win a grand prize totaling $1,000 in value — $300 in groceries from Star City IGA, 100 gallons of heating oil, a $250 gift certificate from Emera Maine and a $150 gas card.
Other prizes include two tickets to NASCAR at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, $125 gift certificates to Walmart — even vouchers to take a free college class at Northern Maine Community College.
“This is to raise money for us to have here in Aroostook County for whatever disasters arise,” the seven-year Red Cross volunteer stated, with the quick synopsis that “clothing, food, shelter and rescue — it’s what we do.”
Tickets can be purchased at Red Cross booths during major community events, like the upcoming Acadian Congress, or interested individuals can contact a Red Cross volunteer or the local office, at 493-4620.
Interested individuals can also contact Urquhart for tickets at 896-3107.
