Soccer registration
Registrations will be accepted beginning Monday for the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department soccer program for grades Pre-K through sixth.
Separate divisions are offered for Pre-K and kindergarten, grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6. Registration, which ends Aug. 13, must be done in person at the William Haskell Community Center. Call 764-2545 for more information.

PI wins girls’ hoop tourney
Five Town Basketball in the Camden/Rockport area held a fundraiser basketball tournament over the weekend, and the high school varsity girls’ team from Presque Isle finished 8-0 and won the Hoopfest championship.
PI defeated Medomak Valley in the finals, 80-66.
Other teams participating were Mount Desert Island, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, Oceanside of Rockland, Camden Hills, Washington Academy of East Machias, John Bapst of Bangor, Central of East Corinth, Belfast, Gardiner, Mt. View of Thorndike, Ellsworth and Machias.

Caribou to host LL baseball tourney this weekend
Caribou Little League will host its ninth annual Invitational Little League Tournament this weekend at its fields at Hilltop School and Teague Park.
Fourteen teams from as far away as Bar Harbor will make the trip to participate in either the 9/10 year-old division or 11/12 year-old division.

Fall tryout schedule
Tryout and practice dates for SAD 1 fall sports have been announced.
Girls’ soccer tryouts will be held Aug. 4-6 from 4-6 p.m. at the Johnson Athletic Complex, located on the campus of Presque Isle Middle School. Boys’ tryouts are on the same dates from 6-8 p.m., also at the Johnson Athletic Complex.
Girls’ and boys’ cross country will meet at Presque Isle High School gym lobby Aug. 4-8 from 3-4:30 p.m.
Golf begins Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. at Presque Isle Country Club, while fall cheering tryouts are slated for Aug. 18 and 19 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the PIHS upper gymnasium.
For soccer and cheering, the schedule for the remainder of the week will be given by the coach once teams have been selected.
The first soccer practices for PIMS teams will be held Aug. 11-14 at the Johnson Athletic Complex. The boys’ White team will practice from 10 a.m.-noon, the boys’ Blue team from noon-2 p.m., the girls’ Blue team from 2-4 p.m. and the girls’ White team from 6-8 p.m. all four days. The girls’ Blue team will have an additional practice Aug. 15 from 8-10 a.m.
PIMS cross country will practice Aug. 18-22 from 3-4:15 p.m. at the middle school.

Spud Speedway held its regular slate of races Saturday and the results are as follows:
Northern Lights: first, Wayne Fox of Caribou; second, Matt Lloyd of New Denmark, New Brunswick; and third, Dell Brissette of Caribou.
Street Stocks: first, Jon Dixon of Presque Isle; second, Bobby Anderson of Limestone; and third, JR Howlett of Mapleton.
Fast Fours: first, Nate Haney of Caribou; second, Lloyd; and third, Kaydie Craig of Ashland.
Outlaw Sportsman: first, Connor Thibeau of Fort Fairfield; second, Glenn Rasmussen of New Denmark, N.B.; and third, Robert Tomlinson of Arthurette, N.B.
Kids Karts: first, Gage Theriault of Limestone; and second, Issac Rossignol of New Denmark, N.B.
Junior Champ Karts: first, Damian Theriault of Caribou; and second, Bryan Searles of Presque Isle.
