Doreen Worby McDermott Messina

Doreen Worby McDermott Messina of Drews Lake, New Limerick, Maine, and Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away of a stroke at the age of 82 on February 23, 2014.

She leaves behind her husband Joseph Messina; her son, Ian McDermott; her daughter-in-law, Kristen McDermott; her grandson, Daniel McDermott; a sister-in-law; nieces and nephews in England; and many extended family members.
Doreen loved Drews Lake and enjoyed her many raised bed organic gardens. She never missed a McGill’s Band Concert in the park in Houlton and was often seen dancing to the music with Joe. She belonged to the Oakfield Senior Club and the Purple Hat Club. She loved to dance and she and Joe went to many dances in the surrounding area, making lots of friends wherever she went. She was well known as that feisty little red headed English lady. Always ready for a visit from neighbors and quick to offer a cup of tea, or if you were really fortunate, she invited special friends to a wonderful roasted organic vegetable supper with free-range chicken and a glass of mead. She lived life fully and enjoyed each new adventure. She is greatly missed and leaves behind many wonderful memories.
A memorial service will be held at 434 North Shore Road, Drews Lake on Monday, August 25 at 4 p.m. If you would like to honor her memory, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or to the Ark Animal Sanctuary in Houlton, which was an organization she admired very much. She always said she would like to adopt a cat or two from them, but she was afraid that the cats would outlive her. Rest in peace, Doreen!
