TAMC ‘Paints the Town’ and holds open house
at North Street Healthcare
during Crown of Maine Balloon Fest
The Aroostook Medical Center is taking part in the celebration of the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest, and the health care provider is inviting community members to join in.
TAMC is bringing their theme of “Paint the Town,” which has been featured in their parade entries throughout the summer, to life during the street fair on Thursday, Aug. 21, in downtown Presque Isle. TAMC is partnering with Wintergreen Arts Center to paint the sidewalks along Main Street.
At the corner of State and Main streets, Wintergreen and TAMC staff members will be working with volunteers to recreate the large paint palette featured in the front of TAMC’s parade entry on the sidewalk. From the paint “blobs” on the sidewalk, they will be painting children’s feet in corresponding colors and having them leave a trail of footprints down the sidewalk towards the Wintergreen Arts Center. Sidewalk chalk for coloring in the street and other art projects will also be a part of the fun.
The theme of “Paint the Town” pays tribute to the many colors of cancer and honors those who have survived cancer, are now battling the disease or who have lost friends or family members to it. TAMC staff members have been donning T-shirts celebrating this theme as they volunteer at the many local festivals and parades taking place in central Aroostook over the summer months.
In addition to the activities at the street fair on Thursday, TAMC will be hosting an open house at its North Street Healthcare facility on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. The open house will feature free health screenings and the opportunity to get questions answered and sign up for TAMC’s patient portal. Guided tours of the facility, which includes Family Practice and Internal Medicine, Aroostook Pediatrics, a walk-in clinic, lab and Occupational Health and Safety, will be conducted by staff from those areas on the half hour.
There will be lots of activities for the kids, including a bouncy house, face painting and getting colorful and creative with sidewalk chalk. Fruit smoothies and other light refreshments will be available throughout the event, and hot dogs and chips for lunch will be offered the last hour of the open house.
In conjunction with the open house at North Street, for the second consecutive year, TAMC nurses and staff from the medical/surgical unit are planning a huge yard sale to support the new hospice room at the A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital in Presque Isle. The Super Saturday Secondhand Sale will also be held on Saturday, in the parking lot at TAMC’s North Street Healthcare facility, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
