School resumes this week in Easton

    The first student day for Easton School District was Monday, Aug. 18. Workshops for teachers were held on Friday, Aug. 15.

   Bus runs have been combined so there will no longer be a first and second bus run. Hot lunches are available at a price of $2.25 for elementary students and $2.75 for Easton Jr./Sr. High School. Reduced-priced meals are 40 cents for all qualifying students at both schools. Milk prices have changed to 35 cents. Breakfast prices are $1.25 for both schools or free for qualifying students. Anyone with questions about the school year can call the Superintendent’s Office at 488-7701.

Westfield Jubilee Softball Tournament

    The Easton Recreation Department will be hosting a softball tournament for the Westfield Jubilee Committee on Sunday, Aug. 24. The tournaement will be co-ed, a complete list of rules can be recieved by emailing Easton Rec at recreation@eastonme.com. The cost is $50. Teams must register no later than Thursday, Aug. 21; tournament schedule will be available on Friday, Aug. 22. 

Easton Wesleyan Church

    On Aug. 24,the Easton Wesleyan Church will be having a Family Sunday Service. The children will be entertaining  with a few song selections at the beginning of the service. Sunday school starts at 9:30 a.m. and the Family Service starts at 10:45 a.m.

Kiwanis Birthday Calendars

    Easton’s Sesquicentennial will be celebrated in 2015! The Kiwanis Club of Easton wants to celebrate the town by creating a special Community Calendar for 2015. It will have 12 different photos depicting the history of the community and will continue to have advertising for local businesses and everyone’s birthdays in the past. The cost of this year’s calendar will be $10. The calendar was expected to go to the printer by Aug. 15. Call Loris Allen for more information at 488-6111. Upcoming Rec programs

    First- and second-grade soccer starts Aug. 20 from 3-4 p.m. on Rec soccer field (behind the playground).  Practices will take place every Wednesday (weather permitting) until harvest break, unless there is a game scheduled. Children must have sneakers and shin guards to participate; a mouth guard is optional. A schedule will be available mid–August. Email recreation@eastonme.com to register your child. 
    Third- and fourth-grade soccer starting Aug. 19 on the Rec soccer field (behind the playground). Practices will take place every Tuesday and Thursday (weather permitting) from 2:45-4 p.m. until harvest break, unless there is a game scheduled. Children must have sneakers and shin guards to participate; a mouth guard is optional. A schedule will be available mid–August.   
    Junior Activities resume for the school year! The program is for our youngest participants; this is a time to play and socialize. Moms/caregivers are welcome, children who are potty trained may stay on their own. The group meets every Wednesday and Friday (when school is in session) from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall.     Wednesday, Aug. 20 — Junior Activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall. 
    First- and second-grade soccer after school until 4 p.m. on the Rec soccer field. 
    Thursday, Aug. 21 — A senior trip to Karl’s German Cuisine. The bus departs from the Manor at 10 a.m. Lunch costs will be “on your own.” 
    Third- and fourth-grade soccer after school until 4 p.m. on the Rec soccer field. 
    Friday, Aug. 22 — Junior Activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall. 
    The seniors’ program with Area Agency on Aging originally scheduled for today has been moved to Friday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. 
    Sunday, Aug. 24 — Softball tournament in Westfield as part of Westfield Jubilee. Times TBA when number of teams is determined.
    Monday, Aug. 25 — Senior Nutrition Class starting at 11 a.m. at the recreation room at the Manor. The cost is $3.
    Cooking/gardening group after school at the Hall until 4:15 p.m. Free.
    Tuesday, Aug. 26 — Third- and fourth-grade soccer after school until 4 p.m. on the Rec soccer field.
    Wednesday, Aug. 27 — Junior Activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall.
    First- and second-grade soccer after school until 4 p.m. on the Rec soccer field.
