Coaching changes

Limestone Community School has someone new in charge of its athletic programs.
Ralph Fantasia was hired to replace Travis Barnes, who has assumed the principal job at the school. He has been an RSU 39 employee for a few years and last year coached the Caribou JV girls’ softball team.
There are some changes in the local coaching front as well for this fall.
The Fort Fairfield Tigers have a familiar face in charge of the girls’ varsity soccer team. Tom Towle, who is the longtime recreation director for the town, replaces Kerrie Alley, who took a teaching position in New Hampshire. Towle has served as Alley’s assistant for the last few seasons and is also a veteran soccer official.
Mike Waugh, who coached the Washburn Beavers to a girls’ state cross country championship in 2012, has taken a teaching position at Presque Isle High School and will serve as the Wildcats’ girls coach this season. Taking Waugh’s place as the XC coach in Washburn is Andy Churchill.
This winter, a couple of new coaches take over varsity basketball programs in the area. Cody Closson, a former player at the school, has been hired as the boys’ coach at Fort Fairfield after veteran coach Todd Alley’s contract was not renewed.
Fantasia is in the midst of finding two new varsity basketball coaches at Limestone as both Ryan O’Neal, the girls’ coach, and Jon Hamilton, the boys’ coach, have stepped down.
