PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — “Happy guests.”
That, says Debi Gustin, who, along with husband Sonny, has owned the Irish Setter Pub in Presque Isle for the past 6-1/2 years, is the secret to the success and popularity of their establishment. It would be hard to argue with their strategy – or their tactics.
“Offering consistency in food and service, and creating an enjoyable atmosphere for a great experience,” Gustin says, is what it takes to make it in the northern Maine restaurant business. “Good products and good service bring our guests back, and they often recommend us to others.”
A relaxing atmosphere – both indoors and out (their outdoor dining area, a popular spot during the summer months, boasts seating for 24), a menu that features a diversity of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees and a dozen beers on tap, 20 different bottled beers, a variety of Maine-brewed beers, and a fully stocked bar, have combined to make the Irish Setter Pub a central Aroostook favorite.
Selected in 2012 by readers of Bangor Metro magazine as having the best burger in Aroostook, and voted “Best Bar” in 2013, the Irish Setter Pub hasn’t rested on its laurels. The menu is constantly being fine-tuned to include new offerings and customer favorites, including a Burger of the Month and weekly entrée and sandwich specials. Customers have been treated to such fare as open-face meatloaf sandwiches, chicken stir-fry and beer-battered haddock.
While the monthly burger specials aren’t repeated, two of them – the cheddar port burger and the Guinness glaze burger – proved so popular that they’ve been added to the regular menu.
Four full-time and 20 part-time employees make up the staff. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. They are closed Sundays.
