CHS to charge admission for soccer

    Beginning this week, admission will be charged for high school soccer games at Caribou High School.
The fees will be $4 for adults and $2 for students. Seniors citizens residing in the RSU 39 district will be admitted at no charge.
Season tickets are available through the CHS athletic office. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Call 493-4274 for more information.

Alumni XC race results

    The annual Caribou Community Alumni Night Race took place Aug. 23 at Caribou High School, with 95 finishing the 2.75-mile course.
The event features a handicap system, with runners 60 years of age and older and middle school-age runners subtracting four minutes from their finishing time, those in the 50-59 age group subtracting three minutes, 40-49 year-old runners subtracting two minutes and 30-39 year-old runners subtracting one minute. All others did not have adjustments to their time.
Leo Kashian was declared the winner in 14 minutes and 18.02 seconds. P.J. Gorneault was second in 14:34.83 and John O’Meara third in 15:28.42. Rounding out the top five were Evan Graves in 15:40.66 and Christian Sleeper in 15:41.27.
The first female was Marie Beckum, whose time of 17:35.27 was good for 23rd overall. Maddie Jandreau (19:02.59) and Emily Austin (19:07.36) followed.
Some runners ran as part of teams and the winners were also recognized following the event.

CMS boys win twice, improve mark to 3-1

    The Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team downed Fort Fairfield and Madawaska last week.
In the 5-0 victory over Fort Fairfield Aug. 25, Caribou scored all of its goals in the second half, with Parker Deprey netting a pair and Cullin Caverhill, Alex Hyde and Alex Bouchard providing one apiece. Sawyer Deprey had two assists and Ethan Holdsworth, Alex Ezzy and Bouchard one apiece.
Zach Gerakaris, Benoit Levesque and Theo Strid all contributed to the win and goalkeeper Noah Hixon had several outstanding saves for the shutout.
Last Wednesday, Caribou edged Madawaska, 3-2, behind goals from Hayden Hunter, Brevin Barnes and Holdsworth. Barnes and Holdsworth also had assists, as did Bouchard. Ezzy, Austin Findlen and Riley Bouchard turned in solid performances on the defensive end and with their work passing the ball.

Officiating clinic for basketball slated

    A basketball officiating school is being offered beginning Sept. 29 at Presque Isle High School.
Harry Orser, interpretor for IAABO 150, which serves as northern Maine’s officiating board, will conduct the school for new officials.
Those completing the course will be eligible to officiate middle school  and high school basketball games.
The clinic will be offered Mondays from 7-9 p.m. and the cost is $40. For more information, including the specific meeting place, contact Orser at 425-4451.

Senior ladies golf results

    The Upper St. John Valley Senior Ladies Golf Tournament was held at Houlton Country Club on Aug. 20.
The winners were: Division A, first gross, Betty Deveau of Caribou and first net, Bev Osborne of VaJoWa; Division B, first gross, Rita Levesque of Grand Falls, N.B. and first net, Linda Steeves of Covered Bridge; Division C, first gross, Jane Umphrey of Caribou and first net, Isabelle Desjardin of Grand Falls, N.B.; and Division D, first gross, Marilyn Ellis of Houlton and first net, Rita Roy of Caribou.
