Hello everyone again. The weather is the topic for now. We go from one extreme to another. With a Nor’easter behind us and then 50 degrees following, what can I say! It follows like the old saying, “If you don’t like the Maine weather, wait a minute.”
Ricker Plaza has been busy with people moving in and moving out. Our newest tenant is Bonnie Lukeheart (what a beautiful name) from Bridgewater. Barbara Watson is from Monticello and is occupying the apartment formerly taken by Priscilla Brownlow, now at Madigan. Next to Barbara is Denise Hitchcock, another new tenant. May their stay at Ricker Plaza be a pleasant one.
Caroline Folsom is my next-door neighbor, and a very happy person. She is busy with her dog and friends and belongs to a Bible class. There are still two empty apartments on the third floor and one on the second floor. The third level is now in the process of acquiring a new floor. When the work on the second floor is finished, the workers will follow to the second floor and then the first floor will be finished last.
Our swings, three in number, have been taken down and stored for the winter. They were occupied right up to the end of the summer and now it is fall but the weather indicates winter.
Kathryn Hall of Brewer visited her mother, Lois Downing, recently. Lavina Byron spent an evening with her son Roger and his wife recently to help celebrate Lavina’s granddaughter’s birthday. She had a great time with the younger crowd and was happy to be there.
Jane Hughes is spending time in Brewer after surgery in Portland. She is undergoing some rehab with the help of her mother, Joyce Hughes.
Have you been to any Christmas fairs? I attended one and made a purchase. St. Mary of the Visitation Church Christmas Craft Fair is Saturday, Dec. 6. Reserve a table, if you wish, or be there for a lunch consisting of chop suey, pizza, hot dogs, chips, beverages and Whoopie pies, at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 11 was Veterans Day. This is the time to thank each veteran you know. I suspect that everyone out there knows a veteran. In my family, there’s my deceased husband, plus four brothers. One still living and is a great volunteer at age 93. Thank you for all you gave to us and our country.
St. Mary’s Church is once again offering Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 27. The dinner is prepared by volunteers, parents, students and brothers and sisters, young and older. It is a great way to give thanks to those who are alone and do not want to cook a traditional dinner.
My Bible quote for this week is: “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.” His disciples recalled words of Scripture. Zeal for your house will consume me.” John 2:16-17.
Have a good week and be kind.
