Tri-Chamber coupon book makes a great gift

Three organizations, that share a similar goal of promoting area businesses and the region in general, have teamed up to create a coupon book — which they call the “gift that keeps on giving.”

“The Caribou Area, Central Aroostook and Fort Fairfield chambers of commerce have taken the guesswork out of finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list, by collaborating on a coupon book that rewards you for shopping at local businesses,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce.
The members of the three chambers realize that the strength of Aroostook County lies in cooperation and mutual support. With that in mind, Kim Jones, serving on all three chamber boards, suggested a mutual project. A committee representing all three chambers met and determined that a coupon book that would encourage shopping at local businesses and support the chambers of commerce at the same time was the best project.
“It is this kind of cooperative spirit — communities, businesses and area chambers coming together for a common cause — that shows what can be done to grow our economy,” said Tim Goff, executive director of the Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.
Coupons from businesses in communities served by all three chambers have been collected from merchants who were eager to participate. With over 80 coupons from locally-owned businesses, the coupon books will make great Christmas gifts. Coupon books will be available for $20 and provide hundreds of dollars in savings and free items.
“The booklets include coupons for everything from food and flowers to hair salons and automotive repair. There’s quite a variety of discounts offered,” said Goff.
Jones announced the project at a recent Kiwanis Club meeting. “When I said that all three chambers were working collaboratively on the project, everyone actually started to clap and cheer,” she said.
Books will be available from various local nonprofit groups, including high schools, who are selling the books as a fundraiser, as well as from area chamber members.
