The State Stock Market Game just finished its 10-week fall session and 314 teams participated, with Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center finishing with the top-ranked teams.
Teams all start with $100,000 and have 10 weeks to try to outperform the Standard and Poor 500 and each other. Of all the schools with five or more teams competing, PIRCTC was the only school to have its overall team average beat the S & P 500.
Presque Isle finished 2.6 percent ahead of the S & P 500. Gardiner High School was second at -1.18 percent. In the individual team scores, the team of Megan McKnight, Abigayle Clark and Jack Andrus finished in first place in the state competition with $158,765 for a return of 56.99 percent above the S & P 500 growth rate.
In second place was the team of Brooke Chase and MacKenzie Smith. This team actually held the first place slot since week two and was only passed in the last few days of the game. Chase and Smith finished with $126,510 for a return of 24.76 percent above the S & P 500.
Team members are all students enrolled in Personal Finance or Accounting classes taught by Alan Curtis and Amy White at PIRCTC.
