CARIBOU, Maine — Middle schoolers gathered at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center for an indoor soccer tournament played April 11. Six girls’ teams took part in a tourney that morning, while seven boys’ teams participated in an afternoon session.
Round-robin games were played for seeding, with an elimination playoff then determining a champion in both divisions.
Fort Kent came out on top for both genders.
In the boys’ tournament, Fort Kent needed overtime to best Presque Isle in the title game, 1-0. Fort Kent was seeded third and beat Limestone, Caribou and Presque Isle (twice) during the double-elimination tourney.
Fort Fairfield went through the round-robin portion as the No. 1 seed, followed by the Caribou Vikings in second.
Presque Isle, ranked fourth, defeated Field Domination of Caribou and then upset both Fort Fairfield and the Vikings en route to making it into the finals. The game against the Vikings came down to penalty kicks, with PI scoring a 5-4 win.
Presque Isle team members were Ben Graham, Drew Cameron, Jaren Winger, Zechariah Morse, Kyler Caron and Jacob Sjoberg.
The Fort Kent girls stopped Caribou 2 in the finals, 2-0. Caribou 2, the top seed entering the playoff tourney, defeated Caribou 1 in one semifinal, while No. 3 Fort Kent stopped No. 2 Houlton in the other.
Members of the runner-up Caribou squad were Sage Dubay, Edie Shea, Kimmy Susi, Hannah Tarbox, Maddie Stratton, Emily Adler, McKenna Smith and Abby St. Peter. The coaches were Mark Shea and Todd Albert.
The tourney was a fundraiser for Caribou Recreation Department youth programs.
