Presque Isle squads swept in Saturday doubleheaders

The Wildcat baseball and softball teams opened regular season play Saturday by getting swept by the Old Town Coyotes on the road.

Summaries of the four contests are as follows:
Old Town baseball 3, Presque Isle 2 — Kaleb Gifford didn’t allow an earned run while giving up only two hits and three walks to lead the Coyotes to the win in the first game of a doubleheader.
Gifford struck out 13 in the complete-game outing.
TJ Crawford sparked the Coyotes with two singles and scored a run.
Caleb Nadeau singled and scored a run for Presque Isle. Ben Buckley pitched well in a losing cause for the Wildcats.
Old Town 8, Presque Isle 1 —Dana Ouellette went seven strong innings to give the Coyotes the win in the second game of the afternoon.
He struck out five while giving up five hits and three walks. Eric Hoogterp provided support with two singles and a double. Cole Daniel and Adam Richardson each added two singles.
Buckley and Caleb Nadeau each singled for the Wildcats. Cooper Madore started on the mound for the Wildcats and took the loss. Nadeau went the final three innings.
Old Town softball 8, Presque Isle 0 — Lauren Gasaway and Kayla Madden had two singles and two RBIs apiece and Karah Hussey had two hits and scored three runs to back the pitching of Rachel Martin.
Presque Isle was led by Kelsey Gilson and Jessica Cameron with two singles each. Gilson went the first first five innings on the mound for the Wildcats, with Faith Leavitt going the final two.
Old Town 10, Presque Isle 6 — In the nightcap, Martin singled twice and drove in a run and Kayla Hayward and Michaela Milton each doubled as Old Town rallied from a 4-0 deficit to complete the sweep.
Brittany Cousins singled, drove in a run and also walked three times.
Cameron, Megan Seward and Macy Desmond had two hits each for Presque Isle.
Gilson went the distance on the mound for the Wildcats.
