WOODLAND, Maine — Union 122 invited parents of prospective students to Woodland Consolidated School on April 30 for a get-together to discuss what the union has to offer.
Fifteen parents and children showed up at Woodland School interested in what new programs were available. Faculty and administration showed off the Union’s cooking and life skills program, robotics program, smarter balance program and sports activities.
“The meeting went well,” Superintendent Karla Michaud said. “Parents regard the schools in the Union highly. If they’re ready to come back they will.”
Michaud said some parents choose to homeschool their children based on their lifestyle, and she hopes the meeting encourages parents to allow their kids to become students even it they just want to attend one class, “If they attend four they’re considered a student,” Michaud said.
Homeschoolers are welcome to participate in any Union sports teams, any extra curricular activities, as well as art, chorus, PE, math and ELA programs, she added.
