Nelson, Daigle win 3 events each at meet

    CARIBOU, Maine A varsity track and field competition was held Saturday at Caribou High School, with local teams Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield and Washburn participating.

    The host Vikings swept the titles in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions. The Wildcats were the runners-up, the Tigers were third and Beavers seventh in both divisions.
Presque Isle’s Regan Nelson won three individual events and teammate Tori Koch took first place in a pair of events. Nelson swept titles in the discus at 91 feet, 6 inches; the shot put at 31 feet, 5 inches; and the javelin at 90 feet, 9 inches.
Koch won the 100-meter dash in 12.82 seconds and the long jump at 15 feet, 3-1/2 inches.
Keeghan Lowe mustered a first-place effort in the shot put with a mark of 42 feet, 9 inches to lead the Wildcats.
Other local winners were Kenzy Ronco of Washburn in both the 100-meter dash in 11.84 seconds and the pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches; Caleb Daigle of Fort Fairfield in both the 200-meter dash in 24.22 seconds and the discus at 125 feet, 4 inches; and the Fort Fairfield 4×100-meter relay team of Daigle, Gregory Jellison, Johnny Theriault and Dyllan Love in 48.6 seconds.
Presque Isle will host most of the County schools again Thursday for a meet to begin at 3:30 p.m. Caribou will be making the trip to Ellsworth for a Saturday meet beginning at noon.
