OLD TOWN, Maine — Penobscot Valley Conference large school titles were decided Saturday and both Caribou and Presque Isle had athletes who turned in winning performances.
In the team results, the Vikings girls took third place and the boys were fifth, while the Wildcat teams both came in eighth. The Hampden girls and Old Town boys were the meet champions.
Tori Koch of Presque Isle had a winning margin of 1/100th of a second in the 100-meter dash. Her time of 13.14 just nipped Hampden’s Krystal Grant.
Eileen Patton of Caribou won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.59 seconds. Nerissa Larrabee of the Vikes captured the high jump by clearing 5 feet.
Other girls’ highlights saw Regan Nelson of PI take second in both the shot put (32 feet, 11-1/2 inches) and the discus (93 feet, 7 inches). Patton was third in both the 300 hurdles (52.53) and the javelin (91 feet, 9 inches), while also serving as a leg on the 4×400 relay team that finished third.
Koch was also third in the 400 at 1:05.69. Caribou’s Sarah Doak was second in the 3,200 in 12:40.64 and third in the 1,600 in 5:40.69, while teammate Madeline Gudde was the runner-up in the 800 in 2:33.2.
The Vikings’ 4×800 relay team of Doak, Chelsea Haney, Julia Page and Madeline Gudde was third in 10:39.3.
In the boys’ competition, Caribou’s Dominic Judd won the 110 hurdles in 16.04 and the 300 hurdles in 40.71 and teammate Mitchell St. Peter took the 1,600 racewalk in 7:36.41.
Also, standout efforts were turned in by PI’s Connor Murchison in the high jump (third at 5 feet, 8 inches) and the Vikes’ Chathu Karunasiri in the 3,200 (second in 10:50.06) and Evan Desmond (8:25.75), Bryce Coffin (8:31.41) and Lukas Lagasse (8:48.99) took the three slots behind St. Peter in the racewalk. Judd followed up his hurdles victories by placing fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches.
Keeghan Lowe of PI ended up fourth in the shot put at 39 feet, 7-1/4 inches and Caribou’s Austin Griffeth was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 134 feet, 2 inches.
The Caribou and Presque Isle teams will be in Bath Saturday for the Class B state meet, while Fort Fairfield, Limestone-MSSM and Washburn are the local teams competing in the Class C event to be held in Yarmouth that same day.
