Passionate support for students exploring career choices

To the editor:

Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 is proud to announce our recent inclusion in the GEAR-UP Maine grant. Beginning in the spring of 2015, RSU 39 was awarded a grant to work collaboratively with the University of Maine at Farmington to support students as they graduate from high school and follow their dreams for postsecondary training and career preparation.

Mr. Mark Jones, former Caribou High School principal, has been named GEAR-UP Maine Grant Director for RSU 39. Mr. Jones is passionate about supporting students as they begin the process of exploring career interests, preparing for high school graduation, and ensuring that students enroll in postsecondary training necessary to meet their career goals.

Recent research has found that as many as 10 percent to 40 percent of college-intending students enroll in college, but then may not follow the steps necessary to actually attend that college in the fall. This phenomenon is known by college admissions counselors as “summer melt”, and is statistically more common among students who may be first-generation college attendees.

Through his work with the GEAR-UP grant, Mr. Jones is available to support students as they prepare to attend college this fall.

For more information, please visit the RSU 39 website at www.rsu39.org or our Facebook page at “Eastern Aroostook RSU 39”.

Let’s work together to ensure that the young adults in RSU 39 can meet their academic and career goals!
