LUDLOW, Maine — A special town meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. to change the name of the shelter that the town will contract with to meet the $800 voted in during the annual meeting.
After a resident informed town management that the shelter in Lincoln was not a “no-kill” shelter, steps were taken to find a shelter that was a no-kill shelter within the 2015-16 budget. Fortunately, Central Aroostook Humane Society agreed to contract with Ludlow.
Ludlow had followed in the path of other area towns in seeking an animal shelter that could save taxpayers money in that line item of the budget.
The town voted to set aside a much-needed Capital Road Improvement Fund for the heavily traveled roads of Ludlow. This budget did increase the mil rate to 17.2, which reflects the new line item titled “Capital Road Improvement Fund,” which is only to be spent on major improvements. Other funds continue to pay for maintenance.
The regular monthly selectmen’s meeting will follow the special town meeting.
