Blood drive Sept. 17

     UMPI, in conjunction with the Red Cross, will host a blood drive Thursday, Sept. 17, from 12-5 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room.

     The community is invited to participate. To reserve a time, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE or visit newenglandblood.org; click on “Search by Zip Code” and enter 04769.

     The drive is sponsored by the Dean of Students Office, the Residence Life Office and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.  Since 1987, over 5,000 pints have been collected at UMPI.

     Volunteers are needed to escort donors and work the canteen; if interested or for more information contact Jim Stepp at 768-9601 or james.stepp@maine.edu.

SAGE begins for fall

     Seniors Achieving Greater Education (SAGE), an UMPI program for local residents over 50 with the theme “learning for life,” will host its fall kick-off at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the Campus Center, with coffee at 9:30 followed by class overviews.

     Registration for classes will follow.

     Offered this semester are Making Wine 101, Celebrate Autumn’s Unique Holidays: Make Greeting Cards, Election Issues, A Day at the Movies, Just Hang Up – Scamming Seniors, Genealogy and Beginner Birding.  Visits are planned to the Fort Fairfield Library, the North Maine Woods and the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge.

     Membership in SAGE is $17 per semester or $32 for the year, with additional fees for field trips and some hands-on courses.  FMI: Mary Lawrence at 768-9502.

Homecoming is here

     A full slate of Homecoming events will be held at UMPI Thursday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 20.

     Events include the alumni pasta supper, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. in the Campus Center; the University Players’ “Broadway Revue,” Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Wieden Auditorium; alumni and friends brunch, Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Alumni Room; Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. in the Campus Center; Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Group, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. in Wieden Gym; and Alumni Sport Day, Sept. 20 starting at 10 a.m.
