MARS HILL – Marie Anne (Annie) Mahan, 83, passed away on September 3, 2015, at The Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. She was born into a loving family of 16 children on September 18, 1931, in Blue Bell, NB, Canada, the daughter of Isaac and Jacqueline (Geneau) Arseneault.
Anne was the only family member to become a U.S. citizen and was proud to be a citizen of both countries and would keep in communication with all her siblings and their families. She adapted into the community and was loved by all. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. Everyone will miss that warm, loving smile. She had a very limited formal education but had the ability to learn quickly. She would embrace any new members of the community who were from her country and had a large circle of friends that would always be ready to go to a Bingo game or play Skat. Anne was a very loving mother to both her children and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two children, Susan Vreeland and her husband, Jeff of Presque Isle, and Jeffrey Mahan of Mars Hill; two grandchildren, Justin Vreeland of Austin, TX, and Patrick Irvine and his wife, Jeanette and her two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Charisma, all of Columbus, GA; a sister, Violet Saunders and her husband, Clifford of Plaster Rock, NB. She will be sorely be missed by her friend of over 50 years, Lois Crawford of Mars Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Mahan.
Friends called 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Mars Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., with The Very Rev. Jean Paul LaBrie, Celebrant. Interment was at Pierce Cemetery, Mars Hill. A reception followed the interment at Susan Vreeland’s home in Presque Isle.
