Senior Donovan Savage had an impressive round of 38, leading the way for the Caribou golf team at its debut match played Friday at Pine Hill Golf Club in Brewer.

Savage fell one stroke short of tying Presque Isle’s Hunter Flynn as the medalist on the afternoon.

The Vikings recorded a team score of 175, which was four strokes more than John Bapst and six fewer than the Wildcats.

Last Tuesday, Caribou made the trip to Houlton to square off against the Shiretowners. Savage had a 43 and senior Tyler Dombroski a 44. Ricky Sheldon, with a 51, and Bailey Griffeth and Gabe Rand, with 54s, were the Vikings’ other scorers. Caribou posted a score of 191 compared to 152 for Houlton. Ryan Dee and Drew Marino carded impressive twin rounds of 34 for the winners.

Caribou will be back in Houlton this afternoon, with Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln also part of the competition.

The Fort Fairfield Tigers are off to a 1-1-1 start. Last Wednesday at home, FF claimed a victory over Central Aroostook, outscoring the Panthers in match points, 9.5 to 1.5.

Jon Bernard had the Tigers’ low round with a 46, with Carter Bruce coming in with a 50. Shane Stackpole of CA notched a 45 to grab medalist honors.

In a home and away series against Hodgdon played in late August, FF lost on the road, 7-2, before tying at home, 5.5-5.5. Ben Tuttle was the medalist both times with 39s.

Southern Aroostook pays a visit to AVCC this afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. match. The Tigers are at Mars Hill Country Club Friday to take on Central Aroostook, again at 3:30 p.m.
