I visited recently with Charlene Webb and she informed me that on Easter she and son, Dale, were guests of her niece and husband, Vicki and Frank Scott, for the day, along with Charlene’s sister and husband, Freela and Clayton Lancaster, and their grandchildren and many other members of the family who arrived from Connecticut and New Hampshire to enjoy the festivities and to meet those they hadn’t seen for awhile.

Following the traditional Easter dinner homemade ice cream was served, much to the delight of the kiddos, who had helped make it. Charlene and Dale arrived home late in the evening after a fun day.

On April 2, Mary Fowler was guest of honor at a benefit supper held at the VFW hall and prepared by members of the St. Agnes Church and the Knights of Columbus. Mary has been undergoing chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for several months and is now beginning to feel much better. She hopes April will be the last of chemo and sends her thanks to all who have sent cards, food and prayed for her during the past few months.

I finally saw two mourning doves the other day out around my cedar tree; I hadn’t seen them for quite awhile. And I still have great flocks of finch and swallows flitting in and out of the feeders all day despite the red squirrel, who is there persistently in search of the sunflower seeds.

I have seen the male cardinal a lot recently and he sometimes sits patiently on the tree limb before darting in to sit on the rim of the feeder and eat while the chickadees dash in and out around him.

I still have two gray squirrels and the larger one sure rules the access to the feeders, as I saw him chase a smaller gray one out of the cedar tree and off to the fir tree on my lawn.

I still have nine deer appearing regularly now on my back lawn, where they graze all over the area most of the day and even lie down near the edge of the woods for a nap. Practically all the snow is now gone and they are busy eating whatever it is that is coming through and they like it, so I have not been putting out apples and bread lately.

I was talking recently with a friend and he told me that he has seen over 60 deer in his backyard lately, so I guess they are all hungry for the food that mother nature provides.
