Contributed photo The Lister Knowlton VFW Auxiliary and the Caribou Lioness Organization recently donated the proceeds from the 2016 Little Miss Caribou and Miss Caribou pageants to Brian’s Ride. Brian’s Ride was organized by family members and friends in memory of Brian Caldwell, who passed away from cancer in 2014, to benefit patients receiving cancer care at the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center at Cary Medical Center. Pageant proceeds were donated for 40 years to the National VFW Auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research program, but when that program was eliminated organizers chose Brian’s Ride as the recipient. On hand for the $1,100 donation presentation are, from left, from the Lister Knowlton VFW Auxiliary, President Pat Edgecomb, Jeannette Stairs, Yvonne Theriault and Cheryl Bossie; 2016 Miss Caribou Kelsie Washington; Pam Caldwell of Brian’s Ride; Sharon Pelletier, RN, with Brian’s Ride; Shirley Dumas with the Caribou Lioness Club; Kaitlyn Umphrey, RN, oncology nurse; and Jennifer Plant, RN, Jefferson Cary Cancer Center manager. |
