NEW SWEDEN, Maine — The search for a missing New Sweden boy was over the day it began, as officials with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s office reported that he was found at 6:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, roughly five hours after they began looking for him.
In just over two hours, a Facebook post on the sheriff’s office page regarding the search had over 500 shares.
“UPDATE: 6:40 PM… FOUND SAFE,” the post read. “Deputies and family home with him now.”
The post did not identify the 15-year-old boy by name, but included a photo of him. It indicated that he had “walked away from his family farm on the East Road” late Friday morning, and he was last seen wearing an orange T shirt and baseball cap.
While the sheriff’s office asked anyone with relevant information to call 800-432-7842, they wrote that they were not seeking help in the search effort.
“We DO NOT need volunteers in the area at this time,” officials wrote on Facebook. “Please do not show up to help. If we need volunteers, we will ask. Thank you.”
Sheriff Darrell Crandall said via email on Friday following the teen’s return that, aside from his statements on social media, the office would release no additional information regarding the incident.
