PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In one of the few games played Thursday, Niko Naranja snapped a tie with his goal 6:24 into the second half as the Fort Kent Warriors defeated the Presque Isle Wildcats 3-2 at the Johnson Athletic Complex.

Fort Kent’s athletic director Eric Werntgen could not confirm how many years it had been since Fort Kent beat the large Class B school Presque Isle on the Wildcats’ home pitch.

“It’s a huge win for us,” Werntgen said.

Noah Martin scored on a penalty kick to give the Warriors the early lead before Gage LeTourneau and Griffin Guerrette answered with goals for Presque Isle. Martin knotted the score prior to intermission before Naranja’s game-winner.

The Warriors improved to 3-1 and were ranked number one in the Class C North table following the victory.

Reece Pelletier made some brilliant saves and was the winning goalkeeper and Jason Dumais handled the duties for the Wildcats (1-1).

Werntgen said he looked through scorebooks dating back to 2004 and found a few tie games but no away wins against Presque Isle for the Warrior boys.

“It’s safe to say that we have not beat them in at least 13 years,” he said.  “Somebody said 15 years ago, but once again, I don’t have the record.”
