CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Choral Society is busy preparing its 41st annual season of Christmas concerts, this year entitled “Ring Those Christmas Bells.”
The concerts are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. at St. Louis Church in Fort Kent; Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Caribou; and Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Presque Isle.
The program will consist of its usual two parts: (1) sacred and classical, both traditional and contemporary and (2) popular and light-hearted songs. Featured in the first half will be: “People, Look East”; Vivaldi’s “Gloria In Excelsis Deo”; John Rutter’s “Christmas Lullaby”; “Still, Still, Still”; “The Coventry Carol,” and end with “And the Glory of the Lord” from Handel’s “Messiah.”
The second half of the program will include a new arrangement of Robert Frost’s poem “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening,” John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War is Over),” “Santa Baby,” “We Wish You the Merriest, the Merriest,” “Calypso Carol” and the humorous “Twelve Days of a Regifted Christmas.” The concert will end with the traditional “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”
All are welcome to attend to help kick off the holiday season with music. The concerts are free but a good-will offering is appreciated at the end.
