St. Patrick’s Bazaar returns March 17

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met in the Parish Center at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5, for their monthly meeting. President Sue Hardy welcomed everyone, followed by our opening prayer, salute to the flag and cross and hymn.

Deacon Al Burleigh said a blessing, followed by a lovely luncheon, prepared by the March committee.

Following our lunch,  President Hardy conducted the business meeting.  Kathy Klein read the secretary’s report from the February meeting. Jane Mitchell gave the treasurer’s report.  Corresponding Secretary, Alta Reardon, read thank you cards and historian Jane Stile gave a presentation on St. Patrick’s Bazaar from the year 1986.  She also had pictures of basketball teams from St. Mary’s School.

Janet Barker gave an update on the plans for this year’s St. Patrick’s Bazaar, which will be held on Saturday, March 17.  The cake walk will begin at 2 p.m. A delicious supper of corned beef and cabbage and all the fixings and also turkey will be served starting at 4:30.  There will be raffles, auction and the paddle wheel.

Our council will have a baby shower for the Pregnancy Care Center in April.  This will be available for the month of April and the parish will be invited to participate. Sue Hardy said the annual convention of MDCCW will be held this month.  More information will be available.

Our banquet will be held the first Monday in June.  More information as the date gets closer. We will contribute to the Easter flowers for the altar. Birthdays and anniversaries were noted for the month of March. Jane Stile won the door prize.

Prayer intentions were gathered and we said a decade of the Rosary, led by Lynette Dobbs. Our next meeting will be held in the Parish Center on April 2, at 5:30 p.m..  All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
