ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The golf course had a busy week.  As each day that passes, the course conditions get better and better.  The maintenance crew is doing a nice job of grooming the course and there are some nice improvements on the cart paths.  A reminder to keep the carts on the paths on all the par threes and other holes where paths are located such as, Nos. 1, 2, 6, 8, 10 and 14.  Thank you in advance for your diligence.

Events this week include a 9-hole Thursday evening event open to all. The  entry fee is $5 and includes closest to the pin on the two par threes. The first Sunday afternoon couples scramble was held Sunday with a good turn out. Finishing first with a 35, were April Bates, Betty and John Smallwood.  Second place went to Carol and Peter Blood and Ralph and Valerie Powers with 39. Ending up in third with a 41, was the team of Debbie and John Porter and Greg Gayne. Next Sunday, the event will once again be at 3 p.m. and all are welcome.

This Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m. will be a Memorial Day Scramble in memory of Greg Doulas.  Sign up as a team or individually by calling the golf shop at 463-2128. The Slice Restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This also marks the opening of the restaurant seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m to 9 p.m and Sunday from 11 a.m to 8 p.m. Expanded lunch hours during the week will commence after school is out in mid-June.

This week VaJoWa received a shipment of 30 new Club Car golf cars. The response from members and guests has been very positive. The cars feature windshields and rain hoods to keep your clubs dry on those rainy days.
