AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence.

“Every year I look forward to recognizing Maine businesses that go above and beyond and demonstrate a commitment to investment, innovation, employees and communities,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “This year I am proud to present my final Governor’s Award for Business Excellence to those companies with outstanding leadership and direction. These businesses are a model of success in our state and deserve special recognition.”

“Being named a recipient of this award was indeed an honor,” said Dan Bookham, vice president and director of business development at Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden. “Being recognized with this award has served, and continues to serve, as a valuable reminder that business success truly does depend on a deep and abiding commitment to customers, employees and community.”

This award is presented annually to for-profit companies that consistently demonstrate high levels of achievement in manufacturing and service excellence, and a steadfast commitment to employees, customers and the community.

“St. Croix Tissue and Woodland Pulp were very pleased to be recognized a year ago with a Governor’s Award for Business Excellence,” said Jim Oliver, controller at Woodland Pulp, LLC. “Working with the state under the leadership of Governor LePage has helped us attract investment to not only grow our business into new product lines, but also provide jobs to nearly 400 people in Washington County.”

Companies of all sizes that have been in business in Maine for five or more years may be nominated or may nominate themselves. Completed nomination forms, available on DECD’s website, are due to DECD by Friday, September 14.
