Shires place 3rd in PVC cheering

LINCOLN, Maine — The Houlton varsity cheering squad placed third in the Penobscot Valley Conference Class C competition Saturday at Mattanawcook Academy.

“We were proud of the girls and pleased with the results,” Houlton coach Renae Foley said. “The girls are ready to work hard this week to prepare for regionals on Saturday.”

Houlton scored a 55.2 for its routine. Central was first and Sumner second. Team scores were not available.

The Shires will compete Saturday in the Class C North championships at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor at 9 a.m.  The top six teams advance to the state competition, scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Last year, the Shires placed fourth in the regional competition.

The roster for the 2018-19 Shiretowners is Taylor Cowan, Brittany Fitzpatrick, Makenzie Fitzpatrick, Hannah Pierce, Kate Smith, Tessa Solomon, Isabelle Cosby, Lexi Crouse, Paige Ford, Emily Shaw, Emmalyne Drake, Hannah Foster, Morgan Harris, Kalle Neureuther, Sidney Peabody, Eden Davis and Hailey Hipsley. The team is coached by Foley and Julie Dunn, while Alyssa Drake is the team’s manager.
