Rotary meets, Homecoming plans underway in Mars Hill

The Mars Hill Rotary met on Tuesday, July 9, with guest speaker Rick Duncan from the Aroostook House of Comfort.

He updated everyone on the progress of the facility since opening on May 1, 2018.  Most often they have approximately three to four patients a day. Presently they have one patient.

He talked about the amazing staff that is there.  “They are such giving and caring people,” he said. He spoke of special happenings and activities with families that have taken place.  Their goal is always to protect the privacy of their patients.

They are nonprofit and shift to foundation activities to make sure they can maintain the facility.  Fundraising events help meet the need to help pay down the debt. There are numerous volunteers and a board oversees this facility.

They have three types of care: respite care; routine care, which is self pay; and general inpatient care.

Anyone wishing to donate to the House of Comfort in memory of a loved one may do so by sending their donation to the House of Comfort, PO Box 867, Presque Isle, ME  04769. You can also purchase a brick in memory of someone that lines the walkway of the beautiful garden there.
