ISLAND FALLS, Maine — With temperatures soaring into the upper 80s Saturday, children gathered at the Island Falls Municipal Building were eagerly looking for ways to cool off.

Thankfully, sprinklers and inflatable water slides were on-hand as part of the town’s annual Island Falls Summerfest celebration. Dozens of area children were on hand Saturday for the festivities, which also included face painting and pony rides.
The town kicked off its annual Summerfest Friday evening with a car show, barbecue and dance at Porter’s Garage. On Saturday, it was time for area children to enjoy some good old-fashioned fun thanks to a generous businessman.
For the past seven years, Jeff Brooks, owner of Jeff Brooks Equipment Service, has sponsored a Kids Fun Day at the Island Falls Municipal parking lot, complete with bounce houses, face painting, laser tag and free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks.
A donation jar was available for those who wished to support the Island Falls Playground Fund.
Island Falls Summerfest continues through the week, culminating with a large parade at 1 p.m. Sunday.
