Va Jo Wa Golf – Week of August 19, 2019

ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The golf course is great shape. The recent rain has greened the fairways up and the greens are holding nicely. Thank you for the many compliments. The maintenance crew appreciates that you notice their hard work.
 The 54th Annual Field Day is Saturday, Aug. 24, with a 10 a.m. shot gun start. It is an 18-hole individual event with twice as many net winners paid as gross. The entry fee is $20 for members and $30 for non-members and includes cash prizes and a chicken barbecue dinner including all the fixings at the conclusion of the round. Please sign up in the Pro Shop so we can make sure we have enough food for all participants. 

 The Upper St John Ladies Association will be having a golf outing on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The course will be closed that day until 3:30 p.m. 

 The Twilight League is down to the finals in each league.  The final match is 18 holes. Competing for top prize in the American League are Steve Merry and Clay Halliday versus Bill Dwyer and Warren Walker. In the National League it will be Brent Kelley and Peter Blood taking on Mark Elwell and Richard Schmidt for the championship.

 Starting this Tuesday at 5 p.m. we will be doing a game night, featuring different games each week. The entry fee is $5, with an optional $5 closest to the pin. It is open to both men and women. This week will be a quota points game. Make your plans to attend.

 The Slice’s hours are Tuedays from 3 to 8 p.m. or later; Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or later.  Thursday features all you can eat boneless wings and Friday is the ever popular all you can eat fish fry.
