Human resources conference to highlight employment law

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Northeast Society for Human Resource Management will host the 23rd annual Human Resource Conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Northern Maine Community College.

The conference, titled “HR 2020 – Update on Employment Law,” will be held at the Edmunds Conference Center. The session is designed for everyone from small businesses to large corporations, including small business owners, managers, supervisors, executives and human resource professionals.

Conference topics will include “Employment Law Traps for the Unwary,” presented by Gregg R. Frame, founding member of Taylor, McCormack and Frame, LLC.  Anne-Marie L. Storey Esq., Partner of Rudman and Winchell, will discuss “Legal Year in Review — Workers’ Comp Update.” Amanda O’Leary of the Bureau of Labor Standards, a Maine Department of Labor Management analyst II, will speak on “Impairment Detection Training for Employers.” And, back by popular demand, a live auction with Bert Winslow, auctioneer, will end the day.  Proceeds will benefit the NESHRM Scholarship Fund, which presents annual scholarships to students and members. 

Lunch will be provided for seminar attendees and various vendors will have displays and information available.  

The registration deadline is Sept. 7, so interested participants should sign up immediately. This conference has been approved for 5 Credit Hours, meeting the HRCI criteria for recertification credit pre-approval. 

NESHRM is an affiliate of the national HR organization, The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).  

Chapter meetings are generally held bi-monthly at 7:30 a.m. at the Northern Maine Community College Edmunds Conference Center in Presque Isle.
