HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton/Hodgdon Adult and Community Education center in partnership with the University of Maine at Presque Isle at the Houlton Higher Education Center, and Aroostook Area  Agency on Aging recently completed a Matter of Balance course.

The course covered safety, exercises, nutrition, and wellness that can help prevent falls and injuries associated with falling.

The course was taught by veteran presenter Bonnie Pratt, who shared her experiences with fall prevention techniques and delivered the Matter of Balance, evidence based curriculum with dedication and passion.

The guest health care speaker was Christine McPherson, who discussed blood pressure changes as it relates to sitting and standing, and how individuals have to be careful when changing positions if they are susceptible to blood pressure problems. She also shared how RSVP had a variety of volunteer openings, and is in need of volunteers for multiple programs.

Matter of Balance is an evidence based exercise program that allows for aging community members to gain techniques that will help fall prevention. Contact HHACE at 521-300 ext 5 for further information on similar senior courses available.
