UMPI golf finishes 3rd in weekend tourney

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls men’s golf team finished third in the UMPI Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28, but the team continued to show improvement in the match vs. Husson University and Maine Maritime Academy. 

UMPI shot a season best 383, beating their low mark of 390 which they scored last weekend in the University of Maine at Farmington tournament, said Mark Knight, UMPI sports information director. 

The invitational took place at Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield, with Husson taking the championship with a team score of 286, followed by MMA with a score of 322.

Max Woodman of Husson shot an incredible 69 for the low round of the day, said Knight, as the Eagles finished with the top five low scorers of the Tourney. Riley Swanson shot a 70 and Blake Marden carded a 71. Tyler Williams came in with a 76 and Cade Charron finished at 77. Sam Sharpe of Maine Maritime came in 6th place individually with a score of 79.

Collin Racine (South Rutland, Vermont) led the Owls with a career-best 93 and Payton Jones (freshman, Green Cove Springs, Florida) carded a 95.
