The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Oct. 7 in the Parish Center. President Janet Barker gave a blessing and members enjoyed a bag lunch.

After the lunch, President Barker called the meeting to order and led the members in reciting our traditional prayers, salute to the cross and flag. Judy Fitzpatrick and Mary Callnan led the singing of the hymn to our Blessed Mother. There were nine members and one guest, Pam Rice, in attendance.

Ethel Mersereau read the September minutes, in the absence of secretary Kathy Klein. Jane Mitchell, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report and corresponding secretary Alta Reardon read thank you cards we had received.

President Barker thanked Paul Klein for putting up the “no rummage sale” sign.

We will collect donations for the local animal shelters during the month of October. A box will be placed in the back of the church for this purpose.

Rosary is held at Gardiner on the third Friday of the month and at Madigan on the third Monday of the month at 10:30. Members are encouraged to attend.

At our November meeting, we will address Christmas cards for shut-ins and nursing home residents.

St. Mary’s Christmas Craft Fair will be held Nov. 9 and council members will sell tickets on a wreath decorated with fifty $1.00 bills.

President Barker will meet with officers to compile a new booklet for 2019-2020.

Birthdays and anniversaries for October were noted. Jane and Richard Mitchell will celebrate their 50th anniversary this month.

Prayer intentions were gathered and 10 Hail Mary’s were recited.

The meeting adjourned in time for all to attend the parish mission.

The next meeting will be held Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Center. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
