CARIBOU, Maine — Cary Medical Center has been named as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics by the Women’s Choice Award, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare.

According to hospital officials, the award signifies that Cary Medical Center is in the top 17 percent of 2,778 U.S. hospitals offering obstetrics. Additionally, Cary was also recognized for our safe surgery practices and lower rates for complications and infections and was also named America’s Best Hospitals for patient safety, making Cary in the top 8 percent of 4,797 U.S. hospitals for patient safety.

The methodology for the America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics and Patient Safety is unique in that it combines national accreditations, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results and hospital outcome scores with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. It is the only award recognizing excellence in patient safety and obstetric services based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.

“Our award gives a woman the confidence that her choice of a hospital for her delivery will be the best in terms of quality care and patient safety for her and her baby. Furthermore, the recipients of the America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety award have led the country by implementing safe practices,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award.

“This recognition is critical for women as they make 80 percent of healthcare decisions and need to know they are putting themselves — and their family members — in safe hands,” Passi said.

Cary Medical Center is one of 462 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for obstetrics across the U.S., and is one of 399 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for patient safety in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award.

“Performing at this award-winning level means that the systems we have put in place, the expectations of our staff, and our focus on patients and families have become the foundation of our culture,” said Kris Doody, RN, Cary Medical Center & Pines Health Services CEO.

“We are blessed with an extraordinary staff at virtually every level of the organization and they just keep raising the bar. Our team has a tradition of compassionate and personal care which goes beyond a job and becomes more of a ‘calling’ to serve,” said Doody.
