HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met on Monday, Jan.  6, in the Parish Center for its monthly meeting. There were nine members and Deacon Al present. President, Janet Barker asked Deacon Al to offer a blessing and members enjoyed a box social lunch.

Mary Grant placed numbers on the decorated boxes and each member took the box that matched the number they had drawn. After everyone received their box lunch, they tried to guess who had provided the lunch.  A fun time and delicious lunch was enjoyed by everyone.

After lunch, President Barker called the meeting to order.  We said our traditional prayers, saluted the flag and cross and sang our hymn. Kathy Klein read the secretary’s report from our December meeting. Treasurer Jane Mitchell gave the treasurer’s report. Corresponding secretary Alta Reardon read several thank you cards.

Reardon reported on the Christmas card delivery to residents of Madigan Estates and Mitchell reported on the card delivery to Gardiner Nursing Home. Members were reminded of Rosary at Madigan Estates on the third Monday of the month and at Gardiner on the third Friday of the month.  All are encouraged to attend.

A donation was made to the Blue Can Project which is given to the Houlton Water Company to help those who are in need.

In February, we will be doing our Valentine’s Bag project. Members are reminded to bring goodies for the bags to be given to shut-ins.  We received a very generous donation from Milford Clark, Mary Grant’s brother, to assist with the project.

A very faithful member of our council, Bunny Tidd, passed away in December. We will be remembering her with a mass. Birthdays were noted for January. We gathered prayer requests and said 10 Hail Mary’s. Deacon Al won the door prize. Our next meeting will be on Feb. 3 in the Parish Center at 5:30 p.m. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
