Caribou company gives to hospital cancer fund

CARIBOU, Maine — The United Insurance Agency in Caribou recently presented the Jefferson Cary Foundation with a donation in support of the foundation’s 2019 Annual Appeal fundraising campaign.

Gifts received from the annual appeal benefit the foundation’s endowment fund. The JCF board of directors established the endowment fund in order to create a permanent source of income that would be available to improve health care services at Cary Medical Center.

Originally the board set a goal of raising $500,000 before income generated from the fund could ever be used.  With the generous support from many donors, when that goal was reached in 2017, the board raised the cap to $1 million. The principle of the fund remains permanently intact, and only interest earned is used for the purchase of new technology, a special capital need or other hospital projects.

Insurance company staff presented the donation when JCF personnel visited their office.
