CARIBOU, Maine — A 35-year-old Caribou woman was arrested on a charge of drug trafficking Saturday, following a several month investigation.

Jenna Belmain was arrested Saturday, May 2, after a routine traffic stop revealed a much larger crime, according to Caribou Police Department. Belmain wassouth on U.S. Route 1 in a 2013 Nissan Sentra when Officer Kegan McPherson noticed her in the vehicle, which also had falsely attached license plates.

Police had been looking for Belmain since February, when they were notified about a possible drug overdose death. As a result of their investigation, a warrant for Belmain was obtained, but she could not be located.

At the time of the traffic stop, Belmain was reportedly in possession of a large amount of Fentanyl and other drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash.

She was charged with the Class B crime of trafficking in scheduled drugs, violating conditions of release, attaching false license plates and operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.

As a result of the pending charges from February and new charges from the traffic stop, Belmain was taken to the Aroostook County Jail. Her bail was set at $20,000 cash, which she was unable to post.

Belmain has a court date of July 2, at Caribou District Courthouse. This investigation continues along with other pending investigations related to drug overdoses in the Caribou community, police said.
