Disc golf course ready for use

HOULTON, Maine — Some of the projects that the Houlton Rotary Club take part in are a little longer “in the making” than others.

The new Disc Golf course is indeed one of those projects. It has taken the better part of three years for this course to come to fruition, from the initial concept conversation, raising the funds, selecting a proper location, discussions with others involved and design.

But the final touches are finishing up and the course is ready to go. In partnership with the town of Houlton’s Recreation and Public Works Departments, the course has been set up in Community Park. It is a 9-hole course that is “fee-free.”

One can try it out by using their own discs or by borrowing ones from the Recreation Department.

On Monday, Sept. 14, fellow Rotarians were provided with a tour (in-person and virtually) of the disc golf course. Rotarian, Nate Bodenstab, talked about the history of the sport, other local disc golf courses, and reviewed the layout of the course. He also provided a demonstration of the logistics of the sport.

The community is encouraged to come and try it out between now and when the baskets are removed for the winter season.
